Blackheath Community Farm Meet-Up and Permablitz

There has been a great community response to the concept of developing a Community Farm in Blackheath and a date has been locked in for the initial Community Meet-Up and a 'Permablitz' of the site. Keep January 28, 2017 clear in  your diary if you'd like to be involved in this exciting new project.

Permaculture designer and organiser Narelle Johnson has been thrilled by the interest so far, and stresses that "experience is in no way essential and people can participate even if they are unable to do the physical labour. We all have something to offer and it makes for a much more interesting and truly communal project if we have diversity."

The day will kick off with a morning tea at 10am at Mountains Christian College (60 Thirroul Ave, Blackheath). There will be a quick look at facilities and discussion of possibilities and then those who are keen to get their hands dirty are welcome to join the 'permablitz'. The term permablitz is a contraction of permaculture and blitz, where a blitz simply means a focused effort to get something done. On Saturday 28 January the group will be taking the first steps towards the clearing of the site to allow for some basic structure to be put in place.

Narelle asks everyone to "bring along a picnic lunch, gardening gloves and any tools you may have. We will need trailers/utes for the removal of treated beds etc and copious amounts of boxes for sheet mulching. If you would like to contribute but cannot do the physical labour perhaps you could bring something to share for morning tea?"

As part of her recent Permaculture Design Course Narelle drew up a possible plan for the Community Farm (see above) which she hopes will inspire, but not constrain, all those keen to be involved. She sees this as a working design and glimpse of possibilities, rather than a final plan, and hopes that those interested in being involved will also provide input to the final design.

Please RSVP to Narelle Johnson via the email below with your name, contact details and any specific contributions you may be able to make. You can also join the conversation via the Events Page
