The Big Fix is an arts, community and media development service working cross-sector to build social, economic and environmental resilience. It seeks to inspire, engage and empower everyone to collaborate in growing a solutions-focused culture.

The Big Fix has been operating in Blackheath, in the World Heritage Listed Blue Mountains, Australia, since 2007. 


The Big Fix achieves its goals by: 


 • establishing and supporting local, regional, national and global alliances to tackle social, environmental and economic challenges


 • kickstarting social enterprises through networking and delivering educational programs and youth initiatives


• providing solutions media services


The Big Fix provides a global platform for finding and sharing solutions with:

• a searchable database

• a daily digest on social media

• a weekly e-news

• a quarterly magazine

We also assist in the establishment of The Big Fix concept in local communities.

President: Lis Bastian

Founder of The Big Fix Inc., Lis is a writer, educator and community development specialist with experience in kickstarting a range of social enterprises, including The Blue Mountains Permaculture Institute. She has been CEO of Arts OutWest, CEO of Varuna, the Writers’ House, Climate Adaptation Officer for Central NSW Councils, Cultural Development Coordinator for Blue Mountains City Council, and lecturer in Environmental Management for Torrens University. She currently teaches permaculture, coordinates the inaugural Youth Cafe for The Big Fix, and is the editor of The Big Fix solutions media services.

Vice President: Barbara Armitage OAM

Barbara has been a founding member of The Big Fix Inc. and has been Mayor of Waverley Council, Chair of the NSW Local Government Grants Commission, Deputy Chair of the Community Action Grants for the NSW Federal Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, and Chair Sydney Coastal Councils. She has also been a member of the NSW Premier’s Council on Crime Prevention and Associate to Mr Justice Allen, Supreme Court of Australia. She is currently a mediator and Code of Conduct Reviewer.

Antonia Miller

Antonia is an artist, writer and educator, and is currently Senior Legal Editor and Special Projects Officer at the Judicial Commission of NSW. She has been senior editor at CCH, Product and Content Developer LexisNexis, editor Thomson Reuters, editor Federal Court of Australia, editor Law and Justice Foundation NSW, and lecturer on antiques and contemporary decorative art.

Carla Billinghurst

Carla is a writer and educator as well as a Business Analyst for NSW State Revenue. She has been founder of Missing Link Community Arts, Festival Director (Glastonbury), Co-ordinator Blacktown Youth Theatre, Marketing Manager for Blue Mountains Tourism, Coordinator BOOSH (Blackheath Out of School Hours Care), and InteLife and ReStart Training Coordinator (Mission Employment).

Morgan Boehringer

Morgan is a founding member of The Big Fix Inc.and is a graphic designer and environmental advocate. He is also the Community Liaison Officer at Blackheath Public School.
